Join Me to Discuss Algorithmic Harm on August 26th @ 10 AM EDT
The event is hosted online and based on an Oxford Press book on AI safety and ethics.

In May 2025, I attended the GCAS Paris Seminar and presented my research.
I shared the essay behind my presentation in my last post, which discussed the disproportionate impact AI has on women and marginalized groups. It turns out I wasn’t the only AI ethics researcher at the event, and several of us found out we had so much more in common than just our research.
resist[AI]nce
Before disbanding, we agreed that we should start a group to share our ideas and collaborate on research. And so, resist[AI]nce was born. To be perfectly clear, while the name is provocative, we are not anti-AI. Instead, we advocate for the ethical implementation of AI and welcome the discourse around whether ethical AI is even achievable.
We operate with the blessing of GCAS College Dublin. However, we are completely self-organized and are proud to be the first extra-curricular club at our university.
Our Book Club Events
In July, we held our inaugural event with much success and discussed The AI Con book by Alex Hanna and Emily M. Bender. This month, we’re meeting up to discuss the main topics from Algorithmic Harm: Protecting People in the Age of Artificial Intelligence by Oren Bar-Gill and Cass R. Sunstein.
⏰ 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧: Tuesday, August 26, 2025 @ 10 AM ET 🇺🇲 / 4 PM CET 🇪🇺
You do NOT need to read the book to join us. We focus our discussions on the topics rather than the book itself. Our three panelists—including me—read the books suggested by our growing community and lead the discussions.
This is not a webinar for “AI experts” to show off what we know. We are PhD researchers in AI and provide open discourse. Our panel shares the mic throughout the discussion so other attendees can ask questions and talk about their opinions and concerns.
